Sailing on the estate
Water is the common thread that seems to accompany the borders of Fattoria Le Pupille, from the crystalline sea at the foot of the Argentario to the natural pools of Terme di Saturnia, touching the banks of the impetuous Ombrone river with an eye towards Monte Amiata.
Here the 420 hectares of the property extend, with outposts even 30 kilometers away from each other, among oak, holm oak and cork oak woods all to be explored to discover this part of the Maremma. Among the green and brown expanses, the silvery reflections of the canals stand out as well as those of the olive trees, 20 hectares between Pomonte and Magliano where the Frantoiano cultivar is present – but there are also Correggiolo and Moraiolo – from which the extra virgin olive oil is born of the estate.
The colors change and become ocher and reddish when one enters the vineyards of Fattoria Le Pupille: 80 hectares in total, with rows that run after each other on hills from 50 to 280 meters above sea level, where the soils with their characteristic sandstone skeleton differ in heterogeneous surface layers, above all sandy loam and clayey and, at times, also ferrous. Here the vineyards, mainly trained with spurred cordon and guyot, welcome 44 hectares above all red berried vines, with native grapes such as Sangiovese, Alicante and Ciliegiolo and international ones (28 hectares in total), among which Cabernet Sauvignon prevails (15 hectares). and to follow Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. In terms of white grape varieties, there are nine hectares in all and include Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng, Traminer, and Semillon.
